Today is Flag Day. Here's how San Antonians can celebrate today.

Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the United States flag.

SAN ANTONIO — Flag Day is on June 14, and it's a day in which we celebrate the birth of our country's flag.

In San Antonio, a local shop stitches Old Glory with pride and patriotism. They even have a large one flying high outside of their warehouse on I-35, a flag they created from scratch.

"Yes [it was] all stitched, hand cut and sewn on our machines," said Rudy Martinez, vice president and COO of Dixie Flag and Banner Company.

Most customers purchase one on a smaller scale. The shop has different sizes and types of U.S. Flags for sale from hand-stitched to decals. Martinez said many start to appear at the start of flag season, which begins around Memorial day. On Flag Day, it commemorates the adoption of the U.S. flag.

On June 14, 1777, the first national flag was approved by the Second Continental Congress. However, it would not become a holiday for another hundred plus years until President Woodrow Wilson marked the anniversary of that decree by officially establishing June 14 as Flag Day.

To mark the day, Dixie Flag's is hosting an open house at their warehouse from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a chance for the community to come out and tour the facility where they make their flags. Their location is 1930 I-35 on the east side.
