Police shoot, kill gunman who asked officers, 'Ready to die?'

Preston Graham, 29, was shot and killed by police responding to a disturbance at the Four Winds Apartments Monday night.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Editor's note: The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office issued a correction to Preston Graham's age. It has been corrected in the story.

3NEWS has learned that Preston Graham was the man that was shot and killed by police during a disturbance at the Four Winds Apartments off of Weber Road.

Corpus Christi Police and SWAT responded to the scene at the Four Winds Apartments on Brett Street Monday night.

Lt. Eryca Gonzalez said that when officers responded around 9:40 p.m. Graham opened the door and asked if the officers were "ready to die?"

According to Chief Mike Markle, Graham eventually came out with an AR style assault weapon and officers fired at him. The 29-year-old was hit and went back into the apartment, closing the door.

Graham did not fire his weapon at the officers.

At this time no officers have been reported injured, CCPD officials said.

Residents from nearby apartments were temporarily evacuated from their homes.
