Frio County remembers Sheriff Michael Morse

Frio County Sheriff Michael Morse dedicated 35 years of his life serving his community.

SAN ANTONIO — Frio County Sheriff Michael Morse is described as more than a public servant. His dear friend Medina County Sheriff Brown says he had a calling to protect and serve.

“We’re closer than brothers, I mean, we have been for many years," Brown said.

Over the years, the two turned from comrades to family. Prior to becoming Frio County sheriff – Sheriff Morse was a Texas game warden. Forty-two miles between the two counties wasn’t far enough for them to lose touch.

“Somehow we both determined it’s important to say we love you whenever we have a phone conversation," Brown said. "So that kind of became a “‘I love you brother. I love you, brother.’”

Sheriff Brown says it was cancer that took Morse's life.

For Frio County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Pedro Salinas looked to Sheriff Morse as a mentor.

“He was always putting everyone’s needs ahead of his own," Salinas said. “He just taught me so much and showed me so much and I hope I can make him proud.”

Memorial arrangements are set for this Saturday, in Pearsall at First Baptist Church. Take a look at the Frio County Sheriff Office’s Facebook page for more details.
