Funeral services being held for beloved teacher

Alfred Jimenez, better known by students as Mr. Fred, will be laid to rest following a service in Helotes Monday.

HELOTES, Texas — Funeral services for a beloved Brandeis High School staff member are set to begin Monday. Alfred Jimenez, better known by students as Mr. Fred, will be laid to rest following a service in Helotes.

He died after falling in what school officials say was an interaction with a special needs student earlier this month.

An investigation into his death is underway by police in Northside ISD. However they are relying on partner agenices for guidance because his death was ruled a homicide.

When enough evidence is collected, the district’s police chief says he will present the case to the district attorney.

And at that point, it will be up to district attorney to decide what happens next in this case.

Meantime, Brandeis instructional assistant Alfred Jimenez will be remembered during a funeral service.

According to his obituary, it will take place at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes.

His son says he wants his father to be remembered as an outgoing man who loved to cook, help his community and spend time with the people he loved.

He specifically loved helping children with disabilities and didn’t have to work but chose to. Since his death, the Northside teachers union has called for charges to safety in the workplace.

They are asking for more training in de-escalation and staffing in special needs classrooms.
