Texas Parks and Wildlife says most of $100,000 in equipment seized at bass fishing tournament in East Texas not stolen

The wardens found the stolen equipment while inspecting 300 boats, 243 motors and 100 trailers.

ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas — Texas Parks and Wildlife Department says most of $100,000 in equipment inspected during the state's largest bass fishing tournament was not stolen.

During a patrol, the Texas Game Warden Marine Theft Investigation Unit conducted a patrol during the Sealy Big Bass Splash Tournament at Sam Rayburn Lake, which is the largest amateur fishing tournament in the state. The wardens seized two boats worth nearly $28,000 and ten motors worth roughly $75,000 while inspecting 300 boats, 243 motors and 100 trailers, according to a Facebook post from the Texas Game Wardens.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department spokesperson Maggie Berger said in a statement the items were seized for inspection because it appeared the boat or motor serial numbers were removed or not visible.

"Items were released after identifying numbers were replaced and most were confirmed to not be stolen," Ber

The unit worked with San Augustine, Sabine, Angelina, Jasper, Tyler and Nacogdoches County Game Wardens as well.
