SAN ANTONIO -- Google is looking to expand its Fiber product to 34 more cities in eight states, including San Antonio.

Council members are set to approve the idea at their upcoming meeting on Thursday, which means San Antonio is on the brink of plugging into a stronger internet network.

It's a fast-speed gig-network that's a 100-times faster than the average internet currently being used in the city. It allows customers to download HD movies or hundreds of songs in just a matter of seconds.

In a recent news conference, Mayor Julian Castro said this would mean a whole new set of beginnings for the Alamo City.

The city of San Antonio will begin a joint planning process with Google fiber to establish a new fiber optic network here in San Antonio, said Mayor Julian Castro.

Google reps chose San Antonio after conducting detailed studies on infrastructure, housing density and flood zones.

The technology is already being using in Austin, Kansas City, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri, and Provo, Utah.
