Group plans 9/11 Freedom Walk across Canyon Lake Dam

Canyon Lake invites everyone to join them in honoring first responders, the military, and those who have lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks.

Canyon Lake invites everyone to join them in honoring first responders, the military, and those who have lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks.

The walk, sponsored by Canyon Lake Republican Women, begins Tuesday at 9 a.m., with Peaches Kelly singing the national anthem.

Especially honored will be Lt. Darin Andrews and Sgt. Woody Williamson, who gave their lives in service, and their families.

The march will be led across the 8/10 mile dam by the Sheriff's Honor Guard.

Everyone is invited to march behind the first responders and active military, VFW group and Blue Star Mothers.

Eight-year-old Cub Scout Nathaniel Hall will carry the list of those who died on 9/11.

The Commemorative Air Force will perform a Missing man formation flyover, and boats from the Canyon Lake Yacht Club will be on hand as escort.

On the far side of the dam marchers will be met by Bagpipes player Bill Jones who will leader them back across, while playing Amazing Grace .

Then, Peaches Kelly will sing God Bless America and George Menefee of Canyon Lake will play Taps on his bugle.

Even though this is sponsored by Canyon Lake Republican Women, it is not a political event and no campaigning of any kind will be permitted.

Everyone is invited to bring flags and as they march in honor of our heroes.

The entire event takes a little more than an hour and begins on the south side of the Canyon Lake Dam, just off FM 306, promptly at 9 a.m.
