TYLER, Texas — Kenneth Steel suffered a heart attack in April and was able to reunite with at least one of the people who helped save his life in a Tyler gas station parking lot.
For days Steel's daughter, Kelly, was searching for the people who saved her dad's life. She took to Facebook to find those people and this past week, she met with Ryan Zeller -- the man who performed CPR on her father.
"I just so happened to be running behind and was here to help," Zeller said.
Zeller was on his way home after getting off work late and was making his usual stop at the gas station when he saw Steel on the ground turning blue.
"I walked the corner and saw him on the ground and immediately knew I had to go help," Zeller said.
Zeller started doing CPR on Steel until he responded with a gasp of air – giving him a second breath of life.
"Lord put me in the right place at the right time," Zeller said.
Steel was discharged from the hospital a few days after that, slowly getting back to his regular life.
Gail Knutson, a store clerk who works at gas station, ran outside and called 911 moments before Zeller arrived to do CPR.
"She was worried about you, she was really worried," Zeller told Steel.
Kelly Steel said it is an incredible feeling to know that they found the people who helped her father during this time of need. Zeller was out of town while the search for the people who saved Steel was happening – but when he came back Knutson filled him in.
"Gail was working, and she said, ‘I need to talk to you,’ and just told me all about it and showed me the video and that’s when I reached out to make sure she got the credit she deserved," Zeller said.
The emotions from being back here can’t be put into words. But what can be put into words is how grateful the Steel family is for those around that helped.
