SAN ANTONIO — The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck is returning to San Antonio for a second time this year, continuing this year's celebration of the beloved character's 50th anniversary.
On Saturday at North Star Mall, fans of the uber-popular character will be able to get their hands on her latest merchandise and snacks courtesy of the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck.
It has been 50 years since the Japanese entertainment company Sanrio created the character and her popularity continues to this day, despite a fun controversy this year on the nature of Hello Kitty.
“Hello Kitty is not a cat,” Jill Koch, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Brand Management at Sanrio, told the “Today” show back in July of this year. “She's actually a little girl born and raised in the suburbs of London."
The revelation came as a shock to fans of the character, many of whom say they will just consider her a cat regardless.
The truck will be at the mall from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, in a parking lot right at the corner of the Loop 410 access road and McCullough. In addition to returning items like Hello Kitty mugs, tote bags and macarons, fans can also get themed patches, pins, giant cookies, iridescent tote bags and more.
The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck only accepts credit cards and debit cards, it does not accept cash. After the stop in San Antonio, it will continue its anniversary tour with a stop in El Paso on Nov. 2.
