Historic King William home burned in fire

The fire is believed to have been sparked from a gas grill behind the house and the flames spread to the attic.

SAN ANTONIO — A historic King William home caught fire Tuesday afternoon, which proved to be challenging for firefighters who responded to the scene.

The fire started around 1 p.m. at the home in the 400 block of Madison, near the intersection with East Johnson Street.

The fire is believed to have been sparked from a gas grill behind the house and the flames spread to the attic. Firefighters struggled to get the fire out due to the design of the older home.

No one was home at the time of the fire. Fire officials say a family dog ran away from the fire and has not yet been found.

Fire crews did not know the extent of the damage. According to Realtor.com, the Victorian-style home was built in the 1880's and valued at around $1.6 million.

This is a developing story.
