SAN ANTONIO — An origination collecting holiday toy donations for kids with cancer was recently robbed.
B.I.G Love Cancer Care had thousands of dollars worth of toys in their storage unit off I-10 near Parkdale Drive when someone broke in almost a week ago and took it all.
A year’s worth of toy donations used to fill the storage unit to the ceiling, toys that would have gone to kids fighting cancer this holiday season.
"Opening that my heart sunk, immediately I was like…what am I going to do now?" San Antonio program coordinator Amber Woodworth said.
The pain Woodworth is feeling isn’t just the toys lost, it's the reminders of the children someone stole from and the legacy of their organization that hit amber Woodworth the hardest.
The organization was created in memory of Brooke, who at five passed away from Leukemia.
Woodworth worked tirelessly for months to fill spaces now left hollow with cheer in anticipation for B.I.G. Love Cancer Care’s "Holiday Shop" in two months.
“They took toys that would be under their Christmas trees this holiday," she said.
A little over $25,000 worth of Legos, dolls, race cars and more have been ripped away from kids who Woodworth says are already being poked and prodded all day.
“It all being gone just broke my heart," she said.
SAPD is investigating the robbery and Woodworth is hopeful they find whoever stole their Christmas cheer.
But for now they have to move forward.
If you would like to help rebuild their donations they will be holding their "Courtside Cares" at Chicken and Pickle on Saturday. Click here for more information.
