Homecoming celebration for Paralympic gold medalist in Boerne

Para archer Jason Tabansky won a gold medal during the Paralympic games in Paris.

BOERNE, Texas — Just weeks after the City of Boerne welcomed home its baseball team from the Little League World Series, they have another athlete to celebrate.

Boerne resident and U.S. Army veteran Jason Tabansky won a gold medal during the Paralympics in Paris. It was his first time competing in the games as a para archer, and earlier this week, he returned home to celebrate his golden victory.

According to Team USA's website, Tabansky won on the last shot of the gold medal match on September 1. He needed a score of 8 to win, but instead, scored a perfect ten which secured him the top spot on the podium.

Tabansky's path to the games was unconventional. Initially, he didn't qualify for Paris 2024 but after another athlete sustained an injury, he was next in line. He competed and won gold.

Today, in a combined effort by the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce and the City of Boerne, he will be celebrated during a homecoming party. It will be at 5 p.m. at Veterans Plaza with an after party to follow at 28 Songs Brewhouse + Kitchen.

The UPS Store at Leon Springs also donated signs for those who would like to show their support. The signs are free and can be picked at up their location at 24165 IH-10 West.
