'It's a miracle' | Homeowner recalls terrifying moment when police said a vehicle crashed into their home

Investigators have not said if the driver is facing any charges. At last check, he was still hospitalized.

SAN ANTONIO — A family is grateful to be alive after police said a driver smashed into their home Sunday morning. It happened off Cannon Drive and Benrus Boulevard around 3 a.m.

The homeowner wanted to remain anonymous but told us his wife and son were inches away from being hit by the vehicle.

“The car was practically right by her,” he said. “Thank God she wasn’t hurt.”

He said they were staying in the living room since they had family in town. A total of 10 people were able to escape the home safely.

Police said the driver stayed on scene but was then transported to the hospital. They described him as a 33-year-old.

Investigators said it is unclear how he lost control and smashed in the home.

“How are there people so irresponsible?,” the homeowner asked.

Monday afternoon, the family was working on figuring out how to pay for the damage.

“Little by little this is going to be a long process, the reconstruction,” he said.

He said while it is frustrating what happened, he knows it could have been much worse.

“It’s a miracle my family is fine,” the homeowner said.

Investigators have not said if the driver is facing any charges. At last check, he was still hospitalized.
