Hooters on the River Walk closes abruptly over the weekend

The company says it is shutting down dozens of underperforming stores because of tough economic challenges.

SAN ANTONIO — The restaurant chain Hooters has been hit with another wave of closures, including a popular location here in San Antonio.

The company says it is shutting down dozens of underperforming stores because of tough economic challenges.  About 40 of its restaurants are shutting down across the country. The company said rising food and labor costs were major factors in the decision. This also comes after restaurant chain Red Lobster announced closures for similar reasons.

Here in San Antonio, the River Walk location was one of the stores the company chose to shut down over the weekend. The restaurant was located the shops at Rivercenter. A public Facebook post by a staff member says the employees last day was Sunday, June 23.

There are four other locations of the famous restaurant in San Antonio.
