SAN ANTONIO — An iconic San Antonio hotel was recognized by the Michelin Guide as one of the most outstanding hotels in North America.
Though 20 hotels from across Texas were recognized in the guide's first recognition of North American hotels, Hotel Emma was the sole Alamo City location to be honored. The Pearl hotel received two Michelin Keys out of three this week, signifying it as an "exceptional stay" location.
Michelin Keys are similar to the famous Michelin Stars that are used to indicate prowess in the culinary world. The Michelin Guide will recognize Texas restaurants for the first time later this year.
“We are incredibly honored to receive the Two Key designation from the Michelin Guide,” Hotel Emma CEO Jon Sakshaug said in a statement. “This accolade is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team, and encourages and inspires us to continue delivering the highest standards of hospitality.”
According to the guide, Michelin Two means the destination was unique and is guaranteed to provide a memorable experience for guests. 288 hotels were added to the latest guide that highlights North American hotels located in the U.S., Mexico and Canada. 168 of those hotels are in the U.S.
Twenty of those hotels are from Texas, including other lodgings in Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Galveston and Houston. But Hotel Emma is among just three in the Lone Star State to receive a two key designation.
Michelin Keys are typically used to guide travelers to the best stops that offer unique hospitality and high quality services.
The inaugural Michelin Key selection was conducted in April throughout seven states within the U.S., but inspectors decided to extend their travel accommodations to the entire nation, Mexico and Canada, thus resulting in the latest guide. Only five U.S. hotels received an "extraordinary stay" three Michelin Key designation, including Kona Village in Hawaii, Sage Lodge in Montana and Amangiri in Utah.
