HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. — A central Indiana K-9 officer was laid to rest over the weekend at the Howard County Sheriff's Office.
After nine years of service, K-9 officer Nelson was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, and his partner, Deputy William Cline, made the difficult decision to have him put down.
Nelson made 564 deployments in Howard County. He helped locate more than 20 pounds of illegal narcotics, apprehended three criminals and helped officers seize over $85,000 in cash.
Cline said Nelson loved camping and sleeping on the couch.
The HCSO posted a tribute to Nelson on its social media pages Saturday evening.
The sheriff's office also posted a tribute video for Nelson on its YouTube account.
