A one-year-old was shot on the 1500 block of Howard Street near T.G. Allen Elementary school, according to Corpus Christi Police Department officials.
CCPD Lt. Paul Janko told 3NEWS that officers responded to Howard and Josephine streets around 7:30 p.m. Saturday for a shooting involving a child.
He said the one-year-old was taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital and is expected to be okay.
Multiple people were taken into custody to be questioned, according to Janko.
Officers determined that a 16-year-old female was holding the handgun when it discharged and hit the 1-year-old child.
The 16-year-old has been arrested for “injury to a child - weapon” and she was transported to the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center for booking.
The incident is still under investigation.
