Fire crews battle huge fire on the east side

After around 5-10 minutes, fire crews had to pull out of the home and tackle the fire from the outside.

SAN ANTONIO — Fire crews battled a huge fire and had to "go defensive" Friday morning at a home on the east side.

Fire officials say the call came in for a home in the 6500 block of Carrie Lane around 9:20 a.m. When crews arrived, they saw smoke shooting out from the roof.

After around 5-10 minutes, fire crews had to pull out of the home and tackle the fire from the outside. They were able to get it under control after about 20 minutes. After that, they worked to put out hot spots.

The were no injuries from the fire and the homeowner was reportedly out of town. Fire officials said family members told them cats were inside the home, but they were not able to save them.

The home is a total loss. Fire officials are looking into the cause of the fire.
