ARLINGTON, Texas — Arlington waterpark Hurricane Harbor is planning its biggest expansion in park history with a new multi-level water slide and play area for children, plus new amenities and park renovations.

Six Flags, which owns Hurricane Harbor, made the announcement Wednesday morning, revealing renderings for the new "Splash Island" development at the park.

The 58,000-square-foot addition, which is expected to open in 2025, will feature more than 110 water features, seven kid-friendly water slides and various gadgets, and a 1,000-gallon "Texas-sized" tipping water bucket.

The kid slides will include a mini-tornado and wave slide, among others, with names like "Rip Curl," "Shark Attack," "Cowabunga" and "Stingray Racer."

A new splash pad will have 24 different water features.

Outside of the new kids area, Hurricane Harbor is adding and improving amenities across the park, including new family cabanas and oversized umbrellas and renovated restrooms. Also, the park's main restaurant will be renovated "to enhance the culinary experience for guests," a press release said.

"This historic expansion at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor represents a whole new experience for families next year," Richard Douaihy, Park President of Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor, said in a press release. "We are transforming the water park with exciting new family attractions and enhanced comfort and dining options, making it the premier destination for family waterpark fun in North Texas."

Hurricane Harbor, which is the largest waterpark in North Texas, has more than 40 rides and attractions.

The additions to the waterpark come at a time of change for Six Flags as a company. Long based in Arlington, the company's headquarters moved to Charlotte, N.C., this summer as part of the company's merger with fellow amusement company Cedar Fair.
