Trucker dies in crash on North Texas interstate, shuts down highway exit for nearly 6 hours, police say

Grapevine police said the driver of the tractor trailer was already dead when officers arrived at the scene of the crash.

GRAPEVINE, Texas — A 62-year-old truck driver died Saturday morning in a crash on the highway near Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, police said.

Grapevine police said the crash happened at approximately 5:20 a.m. Saturday at the exit from northbound State Highway 121 to eastbound Interstate 635. According to police, the driver of the tractor trailer, identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner as Luiz Carlos Camargo, of Plano, failed to make the curve at the exit and crashed into the guardrail on the left side of the road.

The crash caused the tractor trailer to overturn in the median, Grapevine police said.

Camargo was already dead at the scene when officers arrived, according to police.

Grapevine PD said it appears both speed and a flat tire contributed to the crash. The eastbound exit onto I-635 was shut down for approximately six hours, and reopened just before noon, police said.
