SAN ANTONIO — The search is on for a killer who shot a man as he sat in his home. Crimestoppers is looking for information to help San Antonio police solve the murder of a man on the City's near west side.
It was in the mid-evening on the night of Nov. 10th, when the family of 51-year-old Reynaldo Lopez Jr. says he was just sitting in his bedroom relaxing, and that's when bullets went flying, entered the home and took his life.
"He is a person that, you know, if you needed something to drink, you needed something to eat. You need a place to sleep. That's the kind of person that he was that he always offered to help," said Lopez Jr.'s brother Rene, talking about how big of a heart Lopez Jr. had before it stopped beating. "He wore his heart on his sleeve. You know, he really, you know, loved to help people. He never turned anyone away."
San Antonio police say on that night, Lopez Jr. was home with his mother and a friend when a suspect or suspects fired into the home. Lopez Jr. was hit, collapsed to the floor and soon after, passed away from his injuries. As it stands right now, police have very few leads on who took a brother, a son and a nephew weeks leading up to the holidays. Holidays that will be much emptier without him.
Even though his mother was the one to find Lopez Jr, the fact that he was reaching out to God before he died brings the family some level of comfort.
"It's one of the best way to go is to call out on the savior, the Lord and savior, that was provided for us, and that's the peace and comfort that we know that that we can all have," Lopez said.
Lopez added he hopes anyone who knows anything about the night his brother died will step forward.
"I hope and pray that you would, you know, get the courage to do it and just help us out," said Lopez.
