SAN ANTONIO — An inmate at Bexar County Jail is now dead after a medical episode, according to authorities.
On Thursday at about 5:58 p.m., a deputy found a 48-year-old female inmate unresponsive at the jail.
Another inmate alerted the unit officer and told them that her cellmate was unresponsive. The deputy found the inmate and initiated life-saving measures.
Despite the effort, the inmate died due to her medical episode and pronounced dead at about 6:39 p.m.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the inmate experienced a medical episode made worse "by her detoxing conditions." The medical examiner will release an official cause of death later on.
The inmate was booked on Monday Oct. 7. for a charge of possession of a controlled substance, four to 200 grams. Her bond was set at $15,000.
Her identity will be released once the next of kin has been notified.
