Inmate with connection to Mexican Mafia escapes from Kinney County jail

An inmate with Mexican Mafia connections escaped from a detention facility in Brackettville, Texas, just 30 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border crossing in Del Rio, Texas, local officials say.

Officials in Kinney County say an inmate with connections to the Mexican Mafia escaped Friday morning from a local detention center.

The Kinney County Sheriff's office says they do not know how Manuel Guardiola, 33, escaped from a Kinney County Detention Center in Brackettville, more than 100 miles west of San Antonio. Brackettville is about 30 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border crossing in Del Rio, Texas.

Officials from the Sheriff's office, DPS and border patrol are continuing to search for Guardiola.

The suspect stands 5-foot-4 and weighs about 180 lbs, officials say. He has either black hair or shaved head and several large tattoos on his arms, back and chest. Officials say he may be wearing glasses.
