SAN ANTONIO — Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) and Pre-K 4 SA have partnered in an effort to expand child care options for military families.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was announced in a release by the City of San Antonio as a "significant step forward for supporting military families" in the Alamo City and addressing a "significant" child care shortage faced by JBSA.
“By ensuring our service members' children have priority access to high-quality early education, we're not only investing in their future but also enhancing military readiness,” said JBSA Commander Brig. Gen. Russell D. Driggers in the release.
“This strengthened partnership between JBSA and Pre-K 4 SA directly aligns with our strategic goal of building a strong and equitable early learning ecosystem in San Antonio,” Pre-K 4 SA CEO Dr. Sarah Baray is quoted as saying.
Through the partnership, the city says JBSA and Pre-K 4 SA will work together to focus on expanding the network of Military Child Care in Your Neighborhood (MCCYN) providers to offer extended hours and weekend availability to meet the needs of military families.
The partnership will also allow for streamlined information sharing for easy access to child care options, an investment in specialized training for child care professionals and a connection to wrap-around services that provide critical services to families.
“This MOU is yet another example of Military City USA®’s commitment to solving the military’s and Department of Defense’s most pressing challenges by ensuring that families have access to affordable, high-quality early learning and childcare,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg in the release.
