Judge dismisses defamation lawsuit against Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones filed by woman who claims Jones is her father

The lawsuit was initially filed in March of 2023.

DALLAS — A judge Wednesday dismissed a defamation lawsuit brought by a woman who alleged Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was her biological father and that Jones and his associates had sought to portray her as “an extortionist.”

The woman, Alexandra Davis, alleged in the lawsuit filed in federal court that Jones and his team “falsely painted her as an ‘extortionist’" trying to "shake down’ the Jones family for money,” according to court records.

The lawsuit names Jones, the Cowboys, Cowboys spokesman James Wilkinson, TrailRunner International, where Wilkinson serves as executive chairman, and lawyer Donald Jack, documents show.

The lawsuit was initially filed in March of 2023 but was partially dismissed after a judge ruled that the statements Davis was suing over were either true or didn’t amount to defamation. The judge also ruled Davis qualified as a “limited public figure,” which required proof the defendants were acting with malice.

The judge allowed Davis’ team to refile an amended version of the lawsuit in November, though.

A judge last month ordered Jones to take a paternity test in a Dallas County lawsuit filed by Davis against Jones last month, as WFAA reported.

Jones is also facing a lawsuit from a woman who alleged he sexually assaulted her at AT&T Stadium in 2018. The trial in that lawsuit was recently rescheduled.
