SAN ANTONIO — Less than one week from the solar eclipse, Kerrville Mayor Judy Eychner issued a Declaration of Disaster for the city as they prepare for Monday's solar eclipse.
Officials say the city is acting on the recommendations of the their fire and police departments.
The city says the declaration is a precautionary measure that will make it easier for the city to apply for federal relief funds in the event of an emergency.
Officials say the solar eclipse will significantly increase the area with visitors in days leading up to the eclipse. This could cause significant traffic congestion, enormous strains on first responders and possible food shortages. Therefore, the city says this could threaten the safety of citizens and visitors.
The declaration will be in effect for seven days.
