Kingsville chemistry teacher could face felony stalking charges

The victim says he was following her everywhere and then she found a tracking device under her car.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — H.M. King Early College High School chemistry teacher Cory Scarborough could soon face felony charges after police investigators say he placed a tracking device on a woman's vehicle.

Scarborough was arrested on Sept. 26 after turning himself into police who had a warrant for his arrest in this case that stretches back to April.

"Back in April of this year the victim contacted the Kingsville Police Department and she advised she was being followed by our suspect," KPD detective Jose Gonzalez said. "She was being followed throughout town. Every time she would go out she would notice that he would show up to pretty much every place she was at."

The woman went to police after figuring out he supposedly knew her every move.

"She was at a park in Corpus Christi, Texas and she said the suspect had showed up there, so she knew it was not a coincidence," he said. "She believed she was being tracked somehow which led her to check underneath her vehicle, at that time she located a magnetic tracking device.”

According to police the device was a GPS tracker called LandAirSea, it's magnetic and can be placed under a car. It can be bought on Amazon for $9.95.

Authorities contacted the tracking company and subpoenaed the device information and said it came back to Scarborough.

Gonzalez said the teacher was making monthly payments to be able to view the movements of the woman that the device was transmitting.

Scarborough was charged with installation of a tracking device which is a misdemeanor, but felony charges could be on the way soon.

"There are some serious allegations at this point, but we just need to make sure they’re strong enough to take to the grand jury," District Attorney John Hubert said.

That grand jury meets in about two weeks.

3NEWS contacted Kingsville ISD about Scarborough's job status but we were told there would be no comment at this time.
