KIRBYVILLE, Texas —
A Kirbyville woman is rejoicing after receiving the gift of a lifetime.
29-year-old Morgan Brunette has been battling cancer, and her chemotherapy treatment has caused major hearing loss.
However, Brunette found out Monday that she won a unique giveaway that would change her life.
Morgan and her mom, who nominated her for the giveaway, showed up to receive a new pair of hearing aids free of charge.
Morgan said for the first time in four years she is getting to hear her loved ones again.
"I struggled with hard of hearing when I was a child. Then when I got diagnosed with cancer I did I.V. chemo, and now I'm on oral daily chemo and it effects your hearing," Morgan told 12News.
Morgan say's her insurance does not cover hearing aids, so it was the surprise of a lifetime when she won the pair of hearing aids form Audiologists Dr. Brytni Borel.
"I didn't know what to expect and I was just in major shock," said Morgan.
Dr. Borel says out of the 52 people who entered her hearing aid giveaway, Brunette stood out the most.
"I have three kids also same ages as her kids, so just mom to mom having that connection," said Borrel.
Burnette says these hearing aids will impact the two most important areas of her life, first her children.
"Having my children has been the biggest support system ever, and not being able to hear them or enjoy conversations with them is going to be a whole new world," said Brunette.
Then, not feeling embarrassed to speak to her oncologists.
"I normally have to take my mom with me to translate for me, so it's been really rough. I feel like I'm getting apart of my life back now. I've already had so much taken away from me so it's a miracle that I can have some normalcy now. I'm very very blessed that I got this opportunity," Brunette said.
Morgan says she also plans on taking her kids to concerts and enjoying their baseball games more.
Dr. Borel says she plans on reaching out to more nominees to help others like Brunette.
