La Vernia Superintendent, Dr. Jose Moreno, has stepped down as head of the troubled school district.
According to a statement released Friday, an agreement was reached to allow Dr. Moreno to serve the district in another capacity and allows the board of the trustees to move forward with finding a new superintendent.
That agreement was reached at Thursday night's meeting of the board of trustees.
The decision comes after the sexual assault and hazing allegations involving dozens of students surfaced earlier this year.
The school district's statement expresses appreciation for Dr. Moreno's service and details his accomplishments while serving in the role for the last three years.
