AUSTIN, Texas — Lake Patrol deputies with the Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) have recovered the body of a swimmer who went missing on Saturday.
According to a release from TCSO, Lake Patrol was initially called out to a cove in Arkansas Bend County Park at around 2:40 p.m. Saturday. A 911 caller reported that a man in his 70s had failed to resurface after he had been using a small, handheld underwater scooter without a life jacket.
Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) reported on Saturday afternoon that multiple crews responded to the park to initiate a rescue mission. The rescue transitioned into a recovery mission at around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, and TCSO took over the investigation with assistance from Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD), Lake Travis Fire Rescue, Starflight and Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) in searching the area.
Just before 6 p.m. Sunday, the body of a male matching the description of the missing man was discovered in the cove at a depth of 29 feet.
The cause of the man's death will be determined by the Travis County Medical Examiner. His identity is not being revealed at this time.
