Man arrested after allegedly shooting landscape worker for blowing leaves at his vehicle, officials say

Police say the suspect went up to his apartment after he shot the landscaper.

SAN ANTONIO — A 35-year-old man working as a landscaper at an apartment complex was shot multiple times Wednesday morning on the west side of town, according to police.

San Antonio Police officers responded to the 6300 block of Highway 90 at Westfield around 10:30 a.m. for reports of a shooting in progress.

Arriving officers found the victim in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. Police have identified the suspected shooter as 50-year-old, Charles Martin; online court records indicate Martin has an extensive violent criminal history.

According to San Antonio police, there was a disagreement between the suspect and the landscaping crew about about how they were blowing leaves at the suspect's vehicle. The suspect then went to the front office to confront management but this was not handled to the suspect's satisfaction, according to officials. After speaking to management the suspect came out and shot the victim multiple times, SAPD says.

“We’re going to everything we can to make sure this individual is held accountable for something he did," SAPD Sgt. Washington Moscoso said. "This is not something that is acceptable, they were doing their job and one of the crew got shot.”

Police said the suspect went up to his apartment after he shot the landscaper. Witnesses told police where the man was at when police knocked on the suspect's door and arrested him without incident, according to officials.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition and Martin was charged with aggravated assault of a deadly weapon. Martin also has an extensive violent criminal history.

The victim was part of a landscaping crew who was hired by the apartment complex to take care of the landscaping. A manager with the company, Cutrite Landscaping said they are shocked and praying for their employee.
