SAN ANTONIO — The body of a 19-year-old man who went missing under water at Canyon Lake on April 14 has been found, according to the Comal County Sheriff's Office.
Officials say the body of Roiner Alejandro Rojas Pereira was recovered by Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens near Overlook Park where he was last seen. Texas officials say the man's family was notified.
The teen went missing around 7 p.m. on April 14 when the Comal County Sheriff's Office and Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens were dispatched to Canyon Lake near Overlook Park for a man who had gone underwater and had not resurfaced.
Deputies say Pereira was floating on a tube and drifted towards the water intake near Canyon Lake Dam. At some point Pereira became separated from the tub and started to wave and yell for help.
His friend, Abraham Palencia explains that image of Pereira is still burned in his mind.
"I don't know if he fell off the tube or he got out of the tube, but he couldn't swim no more," he said. "And he was screaming for help, and that's when we went in, try to help him out. But we couldn't, we couldn't make it."
According to Palencia, Pereira had just moved to San Antonio from Venezuela with his brother a couple of months ago. The 19-year-old worked at Maaco, preparing cars to be painted.
Pereira was from San Antonio and was missing for about one week.
