Two unharmed children found at scene of murder-suicide in south San Antonio, SAPD says

SAPD said gunshots were heard over a call to police before the discovery was made.

SAN ANTONIO — Gunfire heard over a call made to police turned out to be an unfolding murder-suicide at a south-side apartment complex, authorities say.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said a woman on the call was heard saying "I've been shot" before two audible shots were heard Friday afternoon. Officers then rushed to the 10100 block of State Highway 16, where McManus says the female victim and her apparent killer were found dead in a Palo Alto Apartments unit.

Two young children, a 2-year-old and a 1-year-old, were also found in a locked room in the apartment. Both are unharmed and currently in the care of Child Protective Services.

"This is a very, very sad incident," McManus said about the deadly domestic violence case police are now investigating. "What makes it so sad is there is help out there for anyone in an abusive relationship. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear at this point that that relationship was known by anybody."

McManus said it isn't believed there are any other witnesses to the shootings.

The victim has been identified as Jewel Garcia, 20. Police say the shooter who killed her and then turned the gun on himself has been identified as Josiah Monton, 20.
