Two arrested after attempted robbery on west side, SAPD says

A search for a potential third suspect ended after no one else was found.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police say two robbery suspects who tried to hold up a convenience store are among a dozen people detained on the west side.

SWAT briefly helped in the search for a potential third armed suspect at a nearby apartment complex, but police said just before 6 p.m. that no one else was found.

According to Camelia Juarez, a spokesperson for the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), officers responded to the area of Saltillo and South Hamilton around 4 p.m. after the two unidentified suspects believed to be juveniles tried to rob the food mart. An employee managed to lock them out, which is when the suspects "pointed a gun, demanding to get back inside."

Shots were fired at some point as police arrived, but Juarez said it wasn't officers who discharged their weapons. The suspects ran to the apartments across the street, where they were arrested. Ten others were detained by SAPD for questioning, Juarez said. Jorge Lara, 19, as well as a juvenile suspect were arrested, according to SAPD.

No one has been injured in the incident, and Juarez said no weapons have been recovered by SAPD. It's unknown what charges the suspects might be facing.
