SAN ANTONIO — High school students voted on a new image for LEE High School after the school decided to get rid of images depicting the Confederate flag.
The new mascot shows a military service dog wearing a service vest.
Back in October, the school was renamed from Robert E. Lee to Legacy of Educational Excellence (LEE). The change came during the national conversation surrounding the depiction of confederate images. Several confederate statues and plaques have been removed from public places over the last two years.
School officials say students from Lee, ISA, NESA, STEM, Nimitz Middle School and Jackson Middle School voted for the new military service dog image.
