SAN ANTONIO -- The Julia Yates Semmes Library opened 5 years ago, named after a blind woman.
When 10-year-old Kristen McCullough visited the library with her father she pointed to the Braille signs in front of the Semmes Library on Judson Road.
The signs are supposed to have Julia Yates Semmes' name in Braille, but Kristen, who recently read a book about Braille, discovered a problem.
Kristen contacted San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind to verify her findings.
We found that there was an error on the sign. But at first, we were informed that it was the letter 'J' that was wrong, but it turns out that the letter 'J' is correct, it is the letter 'A' on Yates that is not properly done, said Jose Martinez, a Braille teacher who went out to investigate the library's signs.
Semmes Library said they will be accepting bids and replacing the signs.
In 2000, Julia Semmes donated $1 million to the library. According to the library, Semmes was going blind and decided to learn Braille.
