Lightning strike likely responsible for house fire in far west Bexar County, officials say

The fire was so extensive that the side wall on the second floor collapsed. No injuries were reported.

SAN ANTONIO — A house fire in far west Bexar County Friday afternoon was likely started by a lightning strike, fire officials said.

The fire was reported in the 8000 block of Dovers Den, near the intersection with Culebra Road, outside Loop 1604.

Bexar County fire officials said the owners of the home were relocated for a new assignment by the U.S. government and were set to rent out the house. The new renters had not moved in yet and the home was not occupied at the time of the fire. The fire was so extensive that the side wall on the second floor collapsed. No injuries were reported.

Fire officials said there were several lightning strikes from some fast-moving storms Friday afternoon and lightning was likely responsible for this fire. The lightning strikes reportedly kept fire crews busy Friday afternoon.

This is a developing story and further details will be added as they are received.
