LA COSTE, Texas — It's scary news that no parent wants to hear. Marianna Gavaghan says she took her son Noah in for a genetics test, but doctors wanted to run more tests.
Those additional tests found a ventricular septal defect, or what is more commonly known as a heart murmur, a hole in his heart.
"She basically told us that he was in congestive heart failure, and that we had to go to the hospital right away. After they did the echocardiogram they told us the hole was 7 to 8 millimeters, and your looking at a month's (hospital) stay," Gavaghan said.
Within three days Baby Noah was in surgery. Marianna said seeing Noah go through the surgery and having all the tubes placed in his body was difficult.
"It was very emotional. We don't have a lot of family support, so it's really just me and my wife," said Gavaghan.
Marianna is now calling Noah her miracle baby, to his doctors surprise he has made a miraculous recovery.
"She (the doctor) was very shocked, because she was like it's closed, like he doesn't have no murmur anymore," said Gavaghan.
After being told he would have to be in the hospital for a month, doctors let him go home after just a week. Marianna says Baby Noah has been blessed with lots of prayers, love, and support from close friends.
Marianna and her wife, Ash did have health insurance, but it didn't cover everything. The family lives paycheck to paycheck, so a friend setup a GoFundMe to help.
"We've been going through it a lot as a family, and so any little bit helps to cover the days she (Ash) missed from work, and what medical bills are to come," said Gavaghan.
