SAN ANTONIO — Periodpalooza, an organization led by local entrepreneurs and community activists is preparing for their first annual event Saturday Mar. 9, where they seek to raise enough donations to provide a year’s supply of menstrual products to four local organizations.
The initiative is focused on raising awareness about period poverty and contributing to the efforts to make menstrual hygiene products more accessible, according to a press release from the Periodpalooza organization.
The team behind the organization consists of three women who founded successful businesses in the San Antonio area.
Olivia Orona founded Tejanas in Media, a social media agency that empowers women pursuing media and business while helping them grow their personal brand. Orona serves as the Periodpalooza event director.
Adriana Ruiz, the organization’s communications director, is the owner of Southbound Coffee – a local coffee shop recognizable by the pink trailer located near southtown.
Payton Samudio is the owner of the The Thrift Thru Vintage store on San Pedro Ave, known for its collection of curated vintage and secondhand finds. She is also the Fundraising Director for Periodpalooza.
The Periodpalooza event will include a variety of activities to take part in such as a vendor market, music and entertainment, interactive activity tables, and delicious local food options.
Attendees are encouraged to bring period product items or make a monetary donation for entry into the event.
The contributions and donations raised from the event will support the organization’s goal to supply period products to Seton Home, Visitation House Ministries, Strong Foundation and Harris Middle School, four organizations that support individuals in need – according to the press release.
Community members also have the opportunity to volunteer for this event. The link to the application to volunteer and more information about the organization can be found on the Periodpalooza instagram and facebook pages.
Periodpalooza will be held at The Brick located at Blue Star on Mar. 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
