The Bexar County Sheriff's Office hosted an "Inside Look Tour" Monday for 15 students from Stevens High School and Brooks Academy.
Command staff addressed the students prior to being taken into the facility. The students experienced a brief tour throughout the detention center in an inmate uniform, ate food given to inmates who are booked at the jail, and saw where inmates are housed in the facility.
Officials say the students are interested in a career in law enforcement and aren't considered "at risk," but the tour was an important reminder of the realities of life behind bars.
Even though these students are still in high school and not able to work for BCSO yet, staffing shortages at the jail have been in the news throughout the year.
