Body found in Lady Bird Lake after recovery at Longhorn Dam

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old John Christopher Hays-Clark.

AUSTIN, Texas — A man is dead after crews responded to a water recovery effort in Lady Bird Lake at Longhorn Dam on Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened just after 1:20 p.m. near the 70 block of Pleasant Valley Road, according to the Austin Fire Department (AFD). People called reporting that they had seen a body in the river. AFD, the Austin Police Department (APD) and Austin-Travis County EMS all responded to the scene.

First responders found the victim, identified as 30-year-old John Christopher Hays-Clark, in the water and declared him dead shortly after arriving on the scene.

Investigators say they do not suspect foul play was involved. They also noted that the Medical Examiner will make the final determination. 

There is also no indication that the incident was a boating accident, as no boat was reported in the area.

APD is leading the investigation. At the moment, it is not clear when the Medical Examiner's Office will release additional information.
