Motorcyclist charged in death of Lubbock radio host who was a passenger on the bike

Medical examiners identified the victim as 44-year-old Amy Garza, a Lubbock radio show host known as "Amy-O."

SAN ANTONIO — A motorcyclist has been charged in connection with the death of the bike's passenger, identifed as a Lubbock radio show host. 

Medical examiners identified the victim as 44-year-old Amy Garza, a Lubbock radio show host known as "Amy-O" on 104.9 The Beat. 

The accident happened around Saturday, April 20, on Highway 90 near General McMullen. Garza was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by 48-year-old Steve Nerio. Police said Monday Nerio is now facing charges of intoxication manslaughter in her death.

Initially, police said Nerio told them the bike had been side-swiped by a red truck. But, according to an arrest affidavit, Nerio entered Highway 90 from South General McMullen illegally, causing the accident with the red truck. 

Garza was thrown from the bike during the accident and pronounced dead at the scene. Nerio was taken to the hospital wth some injuries.

The arrest affidavit also says Nerio had a blood-alcohol content above the legal limit and a drug screen at the hospital showed the presence of cocaine and fentanyl.
