SAN ANTONIO — The enduring classic, Velveteen Rabbit, will become real on the Magic Theatre stage this holiday season.
The story follows a young child whose love for the stuffed velveteen rabbit received as a Christmas gift brings the toy to life with nursery magic.
The show's director, Rosa Gardner, said it is a joy to share the beloved story with audiences.
“I love how much this story means to people … and I strive to honor the spirit of the book by having this production bring to life that same warm, connected feeling that people have when reading The Velveteen Rabbit,” Gardner said. “I hope that when people watch this production, they remember that in order to become real, we must open ourselves up to connection with others.”
The show runs Nov. 23 to December 29 at the Magik Theatre in downtown San Antonio. The show opens with free "Opening Party in the Park" Saturday, Nov. 23 at 4:30 p.m. The opening party includes rabbit-themed crafts , rabbit-shaped cookies and a life DJ spinning tunes. The show starts at 6 p.m.
