Magnolia Pancake Haus to host 5th annual Pancake Eating Competition

Magnolia Pancake Haus is teaming up with the San Antonio Coalition for Veterans and Families to raise funds to support our military community.

SAN ANTONIO — SAN ANTONIO, Texas—Two local non-profits are teaming up to celebrate National Pancake Day by lending a helping hand to veterans in need.

The Haus Family Foundation is hosting the 5th annual National Pancake Day Pancake Eating Competition on Thursday, Sept. 26.

The foundation is a non-profit started by owners of the Magnolia Pancake Haus is partnering with the San Antonio Coalition for Veterans and Families to help support our military community.

Tony Fuentes, Executive Director with the SACVF, said they helped 350 veterans last year alone.

The non-profit offers help for struggling veterans which includes assistance like housing for homeless veterans, and help with utility and water bills to help veterans and their families get back on their feet or help unresolved needs other programs are not able to meet.

“We don’t want to give handouts, but a hand up into being productive citizens,” said Fuentes.

Fuentes, otherwise known as “Doc,” served two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Army as a combat medic, and said his experience has fueled his passion to help struggling veterans.

“In Vietnam, or in any combat situation, when someone gets injured, who’s the first guy to call?  The medic,” said Fuentes.  “Same thing here, when a veteran calls, we want to be their immediate response.”

The Pancake Eating Competitions benefits the mission of SACVF.

The event will kick off at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 26 at Magnolia Halle, 10319 Huebner Rd.

The competition is open to the public, and VIP tables are still available.

The first competitor to eat six full size pancakes will take home the top prize.
