Man accused of taking advantage of 79-year-old Vietnam War veteran, police say

Rogelio Olivo, 30, is facing charges of financial abuse of an elderly person.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio man is accused of taking advantage of a war veteran and stealing tens of thousands of dollars from him, police said.

Rogelio Olivo, 30, is facing charges of financial abuse of an elderly person.

The victim, who is 79-years-old and a Vietnam War veteran, is Olivo's stepfather. An arrest report shows the victim also suffers from Alzheimers and dementia due to a gunshot wound to the head during the war.

The arrest report says Olivo spent over $21,000 of the victim's government VA benefits and had more than 209 unauthorized debit card transactions from the victim's debit card totaling $27,008.

Police said Olivo and his wife took the victim to a nursing home in May of 2023 and left him there until he was released in August.

The victim reported that charges were being made on his account and it always seemed to be in a negative balance without explanation. The victim's bank said Olivo was never listed on the acount and had no authorization to be making withdrawals.

An investigation with Adult Protective Services led to the charges against Olivo.
