ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas — The Atascosa County Sherriff's Office and San Antonio police arrested a man in connection to the stabbing of a woman found Friday evening.

According to a Facebook post by the Atascosa County Sheriff David Soward, 31-year-old Roger Gonzalez was arrested Saturday afternoon for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.  Sheriff Soward said Gonzalez was in a relationship with the victim. They were both from San Antonio.

Deputies were called to the 4000 block of Eichman Road northwest of Poteet around 4 p.m. Friday. When they arrived they found a woman who had been stabbed multiple times, badly beaten and wrapped in plastic, authorities said.

Investigators continued to follow leads and clues through Saturday before filing a complaint and obtaining an arrest warrant.

According to authorities investigators identified the suspect as Roger Gonzalez. Gonzalez was wearing an ankle monitor when the assault was committed.

He was arrested at a home in San Antonio off Lytle Street.

According to court records, Gonzalez has a criminal history out of California. He had been convicted of drug and weapons charges out of Kern County. The sheriff could not specify why he was wearing an ankle monitor in Texas.

Gonzalez remains in Atascosa County Jail. His bond was originally set at $40,000 but was withdrawn. A judge has set Gonzalez's bond at $275,000.

The victim is in serious but stable condition at a local hospital.
