According to police on October 2 Melendez was hired to build a metal car port. He requested a $5,200 deposit and installed nine metal posts during the project. The victim tried to contact Melendrez to finish the project but was unsuccessful. Melendrez had requested another $3,100 for a total of $8,300. Melendrez did not return to complete the job.
