Man arrested for shooting another man outside downtown IHOP, authorities say

On November 4, police say there was a disturbance outside an IHOP in the downtown area on East Commerce street around 2 a.m.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was arrested Saturday in connection to a shooting outside an IHOP earlier in November.

According to San Antonio police Roberto Banda, 31, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

On November 4, police say there was a disturbance outside an IHOP in the downtown area on east Commerce Street around 2 a.m.

The victim along with other restaurant patrons helped break up an altercation which involved Banda, officials say.

Police say after the altercation ended Banda left the scene while the victim and other patrons went back inside the restaurant.

According to SAPD an hour later the victim was waiting in his car when Banda came back in a vehicle and began shooting at the victims car.

The victim was hit multiple times.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Detectives were able to locate the suspected vehicle which lead to the identity of Banda, officials say.

Police say Banda and the victim did not know each other and the victim was not intentionally targeted.

Banda was arrested without incident.

Banda said he had no excuse for why he shot the victim and that he's sorry to the family.
