Man attacked by two dogs on the west side, SAPD says

Police said a neighbor heard the attack happening came out with a gun and shot the dogs, killing one and wounding the other.

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department said a 40-year-old man was walking down a neighborhood street when two dogs attacked him.

The incident occurred on San Gabriel Street around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the dogs appeared to have gotten out of a yard and when a neighbor heard the attack happening came out with a gun and shot the dogs, killing one and wounding the other.

The surviving dog was surrendered to Animal Care Services and later died in ACS custody, authorities say.

The victim was treated and taken to a hospital reportedly in good health but sustained several bites on his legs.

The dogs owner was issued a citation but it's still unclear if any charges will be filed.

The dogs were initially identified as pit bulls by SAPD, but ACS later said they were American Staffordshire Terriers.

This is a developing story.
