Man burning trash in backyard catches home on fire, SAFD says

The house and a possible garage apartment both caught fire.

SAN ANTONIO — Firefighters say a man burning trash in his backyard caught his home on fire early Monday morning.

San Antonio firefighters were dispatched to the 1200 block of Saltillo Street near South Zarzamora Street on the west side of town for reports of a fire.

When officials arrived they discovered that a man was burning trash in his backyard and ended up catching his home on fire. That fire quickly spread to a garage apartment as well.

The fire went up inside the attic of the home. The gas valve broke and CPS Energy was called out to turn off the gas and assess the damage.

Officials estimate the damages to be around $40,000 to $50,000. No injuries were reported.

This is a developing story.
